Sydney Marathon is excited to host the 2024 Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World championships.
We are working on a great program for all qualified athletes who will participate on Sunday 15 September 2024, as part of the Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS.

What are the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships?
The Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships is one of the biggest road running championships on the international running calendar for athletes aged 40 and over. The championship event attracts thousands of the world’s best age group l runners to compete in nine age categories. The Sydney Marathon will make history by becoming the first race to host the championship outside the official Six AbbottWMM Races in the championship’s history.
There are three pathways that runners can earn their place in Sydney next year:
1. Automatic Time Qualification
Any athlete achieving the Automatic Qualifying Times listed below will receive an invitation to the 2024 world championships. Please note runners must be registered on AbbottWMM.com to receive an invite. Sign up here
Your Automatic Qualifying Time is based on your age on race day of the qualifying event which you are taking part in. See below the full list of Automatic Qualifying Times.

2. Invitational Athletes
Other highly ranked athletes without an Automatic Qualifying Time may also receive an invitation (depending on the full field size and the number of athletes achieving the qualifying time). Please note runners must be registered on AbbottWMM.com to receive an invite. Sign up here.
3. Bi-annual AbbottWMM Global Marathon
The bi-annual AbbottWMM Global Marathon, held within the Global Run Club, has 200 places available for the fastest verified finishers. Visit the Global Run Club for full details.

What if I change age group after I have earned qualification?
Your age on World Championship race day will determine the age group you compete in.
How can I get an invite if I don’t run the Automatic Qualifying time?
Athletes in the rankings who have not achieved time qualification may receive an invitation based on the number of athletes who meet the Automatic Qualifying Times and do not take up their place. The number of athletes who receive invitations through this pathway will be determined during the rankings season.

Qualifying period
Qualifying for the 2024 Age Group World Championships began on 1 January 2023 and runs until 31 December 2023. Runners who qualify for a 2024 AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championship place will be notified early 2024 from Abbott WMM directly once the Age Group World Rankings have officially closed and results have been verified.
