We are excited to announce that The Sydney Marathon has successfully completed stage one and is now progressing to the final stage of its candidacy. In 2024, the marathon will enter its third and final year of candidacy, where it must meet stringent criteria to attain ‘Majors’ status by 2025.

If successful, The Sydney Marathon will join the esteemed ranks of races such as the Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon, TCS London Marathon, BMW-Berlin Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and TCS New York City Marathon.

Fixx Nutrition (on-course electrolyte) and GU Gels (on-course gels) are available at selected drink stations along the course.

NuPure (on-course water) will be available at all drinks station on course.

A designated marathon-only refreshment station will be located after the finish line at the Marathon Recovery Zone.

All drink station locations are marked on the course map and there are portable toilets at each drink station.

The number of GU Gels out on course are limited and not guaranteed. If you require gels as part of your nutrition plan, we strongly recommend you carry your own supply.

Fixx Nutrition Fuel X endurance fuel will be available every 5km and at the Finish Line recovery area. Fuel X contains electrolytes and carbohydrates and is all natural, gluten free and vegan friendly.

To assist you in achieving your marathon goals we will have a team of Pacers. A “Pacer” is an experienced marathon runner who will run at an even effort/pace for the duration of the event to finish at target time and encourage you and other runners along the way. Whether you are a first-time marathoner or you are aiming for the next milestone finish time, there will be a pacer for you to run with. Each Pacer will be easily identifiable in a Red Sydney Marathon Pace Team singlet with the pace time on their back and by a flag which will clearly display their target finish time.

All pacers will run to ‘Chip Time’ and pace as evenly as possible without banking time (+/- 30 seconds at halfway). There are several pacers on each time who will run in eyesight of each other creating a pace zone. This means that you will not need to crowd around a single pacer. Please use them as a moving timeline on which to judge your own effort / race strategy.

For slower runners, joggers or walkers, it is important to be in the correct starting group. There are three groups in each race all seeded according to expected finish time. Your time will not be affected in any way as the timing chip will only record your time from when you cross the start mats to the finish line mats. This will allow you to enjoy the event at your own pace and provide you with the best possible end result.

As the Sydney Marathon is run under World Athletics rules & regulations, all official results will be based on Gun Time. Participants will receive both Gun Time and Net Time on their finisher certificates.
